CDW Insurance: Collision and Damage Waiver. Related to the CDW purchase option at the time of check out. A collision damage waiver only covers rental car damage. It does not cover any liability-related expenses, such as if someone causes an accident that damages other cars or results in injuries.
Liability Insurance: Liability coverage does not cover any damage to the driver’s own rental car. Nor does it cover theft of the car. Liability covers the cost of any damage to any property, the cost of any bodily injury and damages (which could include medical bills). There are often multiple tiers of liability insurance that denote higher levels of coverage.
Credit Card Rental Insurance: Oftentimes members of major credit card companies (i.e.: Amex, Citibank, Chase, etc.) have car rental protection under their credit card account. As long as this is full coverage (Comprehensive collision damage and liability) this can be used to cover their rental. It is important to check the coverage limit and verify this amount is higher than the value of the car.
Full Coverage Insurance: When a driver has comprehensive collision damage, and liability insurance that covers the full amount of the car being rented.
Security Deposit: The amount of money that a renter pays before the rental begins, which is kept on hold in case of any damages the renter causes to the car. The security deposit is refundable upon car return. The deposit amount varies based on the value of the car being rented.
Deductible: In the event of damage to a car, the insurance deductible is the amount of money a renter has to pay toward repairs/damages before insurance covers the rest.
Government Issued Driver’s License: Renters must present their valid, non-expired, Driver’s License to pick up the car. Copies and passports only are not accepted.
Reservation Window: Each “reservation day” is a 24-hour window, not 1 calendar day. The reservation window refers to the full period for the rental, therefore if a reservation window is 3 days; the reservation duration is 72 hours. Once 72 hours is exceeded, you will be charged for an additional day.
Rental Agreement: This is referring to the contract between the rental car company supplying the car, sourced by CarHopper, and the renter. All potential drivers for the reservation must sign this document.
“No Show”: failure to arrive within the business hours and the scheduled pick-up time of your rental start date, if any has been set. Business hours can be found on each car profile. A “No Show” will result in your reservation being canceled and does not entitle you to a refund. If you wish to rebook, there is no guarantee that your originally quoted rate will be available.
Late Return: A 1-day reservation is a 24-hour window, not 1 calendar day. For example, if you have a 1-day rental and are picking up your car at 9am, it will need to be the next day at 9 am as well. If your rental is returned past the pick-up time, you will be charged an additional day.
Minimum Age: The minimum age a renter must be to be eligible to rent a car. This varies based on the car being rented as well as the insurance coverage. Members under 21 are not eligible to rent through CarHopper.
Underage Fee: For certain cars, there is a daily fee added to the base rental rate for being under the age of 25. This fee will be charged separately once the reservation is confirmed.
Delivery: When a renter requests the car to be brought to them at a specific location and time window. (I.e.: Airport or Hotel)
Affiliate: Used to describe the individual car rental companies/suppliers sourced by CarHopper.
Pending: The status of a booking until you receive a reservation confirmation email from CarHopper.
Active: The status of a reservation once it has been confirmed and the details of the reservation have been sent to the Concierge and the Member.
